Then about another giant…
I highlighted both of these and almost laughed at how casually they are written.
Two giants. Two more relatives of Goliath. Both killed. Just one verse each. No big lead up. No taunting for forty days. No army standing around terrified.
Someone just stepped up and took them down.
And it made me think about Saul.
Remember how long Goliath taunted Israel? Forty days. Forty days of a giant standing out there mocking God and mocking His people. And Saul, the king, the tallest man in Israel, the one who was supposed to lead, did nothing.
The whole army did nothing.
Until one boy showed up with a sling.
David did not have armor that fit. He did not have experience. He did not have the title. He just had a deep belief that the God he served was bigger than the giant in front of him.
And he killed him.
Now, fast forward a few chapters in Chronicles, and giants are dropping like it is normal. Someone's brother. Someone's nephew. A guy named Elhanan. Jonathan, the son of David's brother. Just regular guys with regular names taking down giants and the writer barely makes a fuss about it.
That is what one act of courage can do.
David's courage did not just kill Goliath. It cracked something open in his generation. And the next one. And the one after that.
People who used to be terrified watched a kid trust God and win.
And something shifted.
Giants stopped being unbeatable. They became something you just dealt with. Something you killed and moved on from. Not because the giants got smaller. But because the people got braver. Because they had a story to look back on. Because someone had gone first.
I think about that a lot.
How one person's faith can rewrite what the people around them believe is possible.
How one act of obedience can echo for generations.
David did not know that when he picked up those stones. He was just one boy trusting God on one day. But because he stepped out, his nephews and his soldiers and his soldiers' sons grew up in a different kind of Israel. A braver Israel. An Israel where giants get killed in a single verse with no fanfare.
The future was changed because one boy decided to trust God.
That is what courage does.
It does not just win the battle in front of you. It changes what your kids and their kids believe God can do.
