I have to be honest. I do not know why I highlighted this one. I actually thought about just skipping blogging about it.
I was reading the Bible in a month, just moving through it, marking what stood out in the moment. I did not jot notes. I did not stop and journal about it. I just highlighted and kept going.
So now I am looking at it a few months later trying to figure out what caught me.
And I have no idea.
But here is the thing.
This happens to me all the time when I open my Bible. I will be reading and come across a verse that I highlighted years ago. Or a little note I scribbled in the margin. And I have no memory of why. I do not remember what season I was in or what I was wrestling with or what God was saying to me when I marked it.
But I have come to love that about reading Scripture.
Because it means the Bible is alive in a way other books just are not.
You can read a verse five years ago and something in it grabs you. It speaks to exactly where you are. You highlight it because you cannot let it go. And then five years later you read the same verse and something completely different stands out. A different word. A different angle. A different lesson.
The verse did not change.
You did.
God meets you in the Word right where you are. The same verse can comfort you in one season and challenge you in another. It can be a promise one year and a warning the next. It can hold a memory of where you were when you first read it, and at the same time be brand new.
That is what makes the Bible so different from anything else.
So for this verse, I will probably never know why I highlighted it. Maybe I just thought it was cool that Solomon's reach was that far. Maybe I was thinking about how much God blessed him. Maybe I was tired and my highlighter slipped. lol
I do not know.
But what stands out to me now, reading it again, is that all of this happened because David asked God for guidance. Because Solomon asked God for wisdom. Because generations of obedience added up to a kingdom that stretched from the Euphrates to Egypt.
That is what stuck out today.
It might be something completely different the next time I read it.
And that is okay.
That is part of why the Bible is so cool. You never read the same verse twice, even when the words have not changed.
