I want to be like Hezekiah.
That is the whole reason I highlighted this verse. It is short. It is simple. It is the summary line at the end of the chapter that just sums up his life.
And it is the kind of summary I would want for mine.
He sought his God wholeheartedly.
Wholeheartedly. Not partially. Not when it was convenient. Not when it lined up with his plans. Wholeheartedly.
Every part of his heart was in it.
That is rare. Even in Scripture. Most of the kings did some good things and some terrible things. They started strong and finished weak. They obeyed in one area and disobeyed in another. They were faithful in public and a mess in private.
But Hezekiah pursued God with his whole heart.
He tore down what needed to be torn down. He restored what needed to be restored. He gathered the people. He led the worship. He set up the priests. He organized the giving. He took care of the temple. He sought the Lord in the small details and the big decisions. He did not just rule a kingdom. He pursued a God.
And the verse says as a result, he was very successful.
The success was not the goal. It was the result.
He went after God first. The blessing followed.
So much of how we live today is the opposite. We chase the success and hope God shows up in the middle of it. We pursue the platform, the income, the comfort, the achievement, and then we ask God to bless what we built. We make Him the cherry on top instead of the foundation underneath.
Hezekiah did not live like that. He pursued God first. Wholeheartedly. And the rest came along because of it.
I do not want a half life with God.
I do not want to be the kind of believer who shows up at church but never lets it shape my Tuesday. I do not want to follow God in the easy places and ignore Him in the hard ones. I do not want to obey when it is convenient and negotiate when it costs me something.
I want to be wholehearted.
Not perfect. Hezekiah was not perfect either. He had moments later in his life where his pride showed up. But the summary of his life was not the slip. The summary was the pursuit.
That gives me hope. Because I am going to slip. We all are. But what I want the overall direction of my life to look like is the same as his.
A wholehearted pursuit of God.
And then whatever success follows, follows.
