David finally gets it.
The first time he tried to bring the Ark back, it ended badly. A man named Uzzah reached out to steady it and died on the spot. The whole thing got abandoned for a while.
Now David is trying again. And before they move it, he stops and says this.
We failed to ask God how to move it in the proper way.
That line.
They did not ask. They had good intentions. They wanted the Ark back. They were celebrating. But they moved it however they wanted instead of how God said to.
And then David has the Levites consecrate themselves before they touch it. Purify themselves first. Treat it as sacred. Approach the things of God with the reverence God asked for.
I read that and I wondered. Do we do that anymore?
We just move.
We just go.
We do not stop and ask God how. We do not pause and ask if we are even supposed to. We do not prepare our hearts before we walk into something sacred. We just rush in and grab it and carry it however we feel like carrying it.
And I started wondering why.
Is it because Jesus came and broke the power of the law? He fulfilled it. We do not have to follow all the rituals anymore. There is not a literal Ark we are afraid to touch.
Maybe.
But I do not think the heart behind the law went away.
The rituals pointed to something deeper. They pointed to a God who is holy. A God who is not casual. A God who wanted His people to prepare themselves before coming near to Him because He is worth the preparation.
Jesus did not erase that. He made the way for us to come close. But coming close was never supposed to mean coming careless.
I think we have gotten really comfortable with the things of God. And comfort is not the same as reverence.
We can walk into worship while still mid-scroll. We can pray on the way out the door without ever stopping. We can grab a verse to post and never let it actually go down into us.
Nothing happens. No one drops dead. But something is still missing.
David's lesson was not just follow the rules. It was ask God how.
Ask Him how to move forward.
Ask Him how to handle the holy things.
Prepare your heart before you walk in.
That part still matters.
